Red With the Gingham

I’ve been pretty narrow in my tie coloring with my blue and navy gingham shirts. I went with gray/navy striped ties here and here. I went with shades of yellow ties here, here, and here. I also was pretty narrow in my suit coloring with all of those combinations paired with a gray suit. Today I changed up the tie with a red Paul Fredrick and a navy suit with blue and gold pinstripes. Given the gold pinstripes, I may have to try this combination with a gold/yellow colored tie. Just for grins.

I’ve also changed my picture taking location and am quite pleased with the results over the past few days.

The Rain Falls Mainly on the Plain

Colorado gets around 300 days of sunshine a year. So when there has been several days in a row of cloudy, rainy skies we tend to get a little gray in our outlook. Hence today’s gray on gray on black look. That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it.

But I really brightened it up with a white shirt and pocket square, right? Maybe I should have included a gray vneck sweater…

The tie is an absolutely ancient Ferrell Reed City of London. The shirt is a TM Lewin Windsor slim fit.

Really Bright Tie

Last time this TM Lewin shirt made an appearance on the blog, it was paired with a necktie that toned things down a bit. This tie kicks it up a notch or three. If you think it takes some cajones to strap on a bow tie for the day, try knotting up a tie this bright and this “colorful”. I will say that the compliments I get from the fairer of the two sexes more than make up for the sideways glances, etc. that I also get from time to time. Not only is the color of the tie a winner but the texture is as well.

Thick, Thick Seven Fold

This particular Paul Fredrick necktie is a very thick and heavy seven fold. It’s heavy enough that I bring along an extra tie on days I select this one in the morning because it can actually get uncomfortable to wear. The weave is fairly open, giving it a nice texture. Although it looks solid gold in the picture, it actually has some navy in it as well. There was absolutely no chance of trying any knot other than a four-in-hand. Not that I would have anyway.

I paired it with a solid blue Hawes and Curtis shirt and navy sport coat to give the texture a chance to stand out a little more.

Navy Purple Rut

Or maybe I’m in a purple navy rut. Some country should have a purple navy and sail it around the world like Teddy Roosevelt did with the Great White Fleet.

Today’s tie is a very old and fat Ferrell Reed City of London. Speaking of fat ties, I wore one of the same make and model and similar pattern during my Fat Tie Week.

The shirt is a TM Lewin Buckingham collar. This particular model is a slim fit with button cuffs instead of “double cuffs”. Double cuffs are the same thing as French cuffs. I went with button cuffs to better match the level of formality with the sport coat.
