Red Stripes II

This is what I have on right here and now. Yeah, I skipped tying one on yesterday. My work yesterday included some not so clean activities so I chose to protect my nicer clothes. I find it nice that I am not required to wear coat/suit and tie. I choose to do so. Why? Dunno. Prolly something in my childhood that I should blame on my parents or something. I enjoy it. If suit and tie were required I don’t think I would enjoy it quite as much. That and I’d look like everyone else.

Today is actually a coat and tie day. Stripes and checks up top and solid, tan trousers below the bottom of the picture. The tie is another Hilfiger that I picked up the same day I nabbed the Stephen Colbert inspired blue/navy stripe.

Another Mimic

Not too bad a copy, if I do say so myself. I saw the Colbert Report on Cinco de Mayo and thought his wardrobe department had put together a pretty snazzy combination. It must have been memorable because I noticed a very similar tie yesterday while I was out goofing around. Rather than delay trying it out I paired it up with a windowpane suit instead of a pinstripe. I wore the pinstripe yesterday. The other differences? I’ve got French cuffs working today and, the most obvious difference is that I finish things off with a pocket square. His wardrobe department is quite good but they do need to step it up just a bit in that regard.

The coolest similarity is that Colbert also uses a dimpled four-in-hand. Hah!

BWH II

Belgian Waffle Humping, in case you were wondering. In reference to a Stephen Colbert segment and in deference to The Fangirl Suit Report. I really do enjoy the Suit Report and Gratefull’s descriptions. My vocabulary has been increased a fair bit just by looking up some of the words in her descriptions.

I thought I was going to be pretty sly combining this Hilfiger waffle with the window paned sport coat. Turns out that’s basically what I did in the original waffle humper of a post. There are a few differences but basically it’s kind of the same.

The shirt is a TM Lewin Buckingham slim fit. The Buckinghams have a barrel cuff rather than French cuffs. I’m guessing the original BWH post had a French cuff since that’s a suit rather than a sport coat.

Oh geeze, I’m starting to ramble…

Less Minimal

Basically the same idea as last Monday but instead of a plain white shirt I selected a navy and blue check. The other major difference is a gray suit instead of a navy suit. The shirt is a TM Lewin Windsor slim fit and the tie is Tommy Hilfiger.

I can’t completely claim the look. I did get the basics of the idea from what Stephen Colbert wore on March 10. There’s a good chance I would have never teamed up this shirt and tie combination with a gray suit. And Colbert still has no idea what that suit pocket is for so that evens us up a bit. That and he’s got a wardrobe department to take care of his suit and tie combos for him. I just have two dogs and they’re not much help.

Last Mimic Day

Ok, so today’s mimic is a stretch. I do have a blue, french cuffed shirt and very similar cuff links. The tie is similar in pattern but the color is far from grape. And I don’t think my suit is a gray, Keyser Söze. There’s no way I could come close to playing a villain as well as Kevin Spacey. The banana doesn’t come out of the lunch box until about 10:30 Mountain Time.  But I do have one killer pocket square.

The shirt is from Charles Tyrwhitt and the tie is a Ferrell Reed City of London. I’m not a huge fan of Ferrell Reed ties but their now vintage City of London line was quite good back in the day. I have several and like each one immensely. They are a little on the wide side, however, so they don’t get much wear anymore.

A couple of bonus shots from on my way to work at the crack of dawn this morning:

Colbert Mimic Day 3

Hopefully close counts in horseshoes, hand grenades, thermonuclear weapons, and basic colors and patterns because that’s all I got – close. As far as accessories go, Stephen needs to test drive a pocket square or three. He’s got me beat on the watch, though. My watch is a cell phone.

Shirt is TM Lewin and Tie is Alfani. One of only two Alfani neckwear pieces I own. The other is also a red and black stripe that I wore last week. Today’s model dimples. And the geek that is me looks at “Alfani” and begins to imagine a story where Alf and Ani Skywalker meet. Yeah, I’m a dork.

Mimic Day 2

Maybe a closer match today, maybe not. At least I managed to get the shirt color right today. The shirt is TM Lewin and the tie is  J.Z. Richards. This particular one has a copyright and a design number printed right on the silk of the tail:

Interesting that a fairly straightforward design would be copyrighted but there ya go.
